I am looking for a software that will allow me to record live speech from my church. Is there any good free software out there? Or if I should buy one can you please advise?

Normally, i use a recorder device and a tape. After that transfer to my PC.

Well if it something which lasts less than a minute then you could use the windows voice recorder, but then at one time you could not record more that that unless and untill you make manipulations, What you have to do is mix 2 files which would give you some more time...but then the clarity is always less.
I make use of goldwave it is an amazing software..http://www.goldwave.com/release.php
