Windows Vista has a program that ships with the main software that takes backups to the system. As for the regular data (Not system data, or maybe you're not on vista yet) you can try out Ancysoft Data Recovery or DATA RECOVERY SUITE 2007I've heard that the are good. Take a look at their reviews and make up your mind, or just try both. ;)

I don't wish you to get to test them both, who would want you to get your HDD broken twice ? :D

Files deleted even from the recycle bin can be recovered easily if and only if they were deleted recently. The way windows "deletes" a file is by marking the begging of the file as "empty space" and the next time you copy something to the harddrive, the new file overwrites the content of the old one. I an overwrite takes place, then you need the FBI to get your data back :P It's almost impossible.

Retrieving a folder that has been deleted is purely based on luck and there is no guarantee on the integrity of the data retrieved. . you mite recover a file deleted years ago and not a file deleted yesterday. . this is just how things WORK i guess :(

I don't think so. Your windows will heavy and its hard for you to keep it if its too many files in your recycle bin.

GetDataBack is really the best software for this. The deleted files stay on the hard disk until they r overwritten , and this software can reclaim those back. Chek it out here
