AccessProof is a free utility that renders data on magnetic media completely unreadable by overwriting the data multiple times. This program was developed as a result of unsatisfactory quality of free tools, which often had usability so poor they are not used enough to be effective. The program contains many features found in commercial products and is simple enough to become proficient in minutes. AccessProof contains well regarded procedures for overwriting data: DoD 5220.22M, the defacto standard of file overwriting developed and published by the U.S. Department of Defense, and the Gutmann method, developed by independent security researcher Peter Gutmann, which provides maximum protection against recovery.
